Sand

Sand
Dance to the sun as
It warms up the night
As it slowly sinks inward
To darken our light
I stand in the shadows
I see what you see
I feel the sand moving
It blows it is free
To move all around as I do when I do
Now here then there,
It drifts everywhere
It heaps up in corners
Then blows again sideways
Tilting the earth
It’s always in motion
Shifting and drifting
Till it scatters again
So soft yet insistent
So yielding but sharp
Smoothing the splinter
and edges in me
Now I am naked
You see here I am
Sandblown to perfection
That girl standing there
That girl was once me
Now I am wiser
My face lined with laughter
Whatever fate brought me
I chased the hereafter
I saw past the veil
Of sadness and pain
And emerged in the light
Then scattered again

Blue Lace

Blue Lace
I looked inside your head
You have troubles on your mind
And far away the darkness comes
It swallows up the time
And you try, you try to
Capture all the light
You put it in your crystal vase
And blend it with the night
Tendrils of your smoking breath
Cut the early morning cold, breathing
To feel alive, to cheat death once more
This time don’t go so fast
This time let’s make it last
Walk me to the river walk
Along the water’s edge
Understand my solitude
I know your need for pain
Feel my heart break in your hand
You’ll be free again
No end to this road, it’s always been too far
I see a man with brown eyes
he drives that orange car
He gave away his heart last night
To a blond in a country bar
Leaves are turning in the wind
To where the light and time begins
At the Salvation Army thrift store, Corner of Eastern Shore
She ran in there so she could wear
Someone jeans and hippy shawl
Her tattoos like old blue lace
From a time beyond recall
She took your time and all your love, and threw it all away.

Even Better

Even Better
When I feel you beside me
Your body naked and fine
I want to touch and absorb you
I want to make you mine
Give me some time and I will make you feel fine
………………………………even better
When you ride on the wind babe
I see you everywhere
I want to hold and explore you
I want to know that you care
I see your love’s not for me babe
I know your truth is not here
Give me some time and I’ll show you
My love has no fear
Yeah yeah yeah yeah, I’ll show you good time
Give me some time and I will make you mine

Afghanistan
You laid me down in the green grass low
Behind the hill where the poppies grow
You touched my body You made me glow
Behind the hill where the poppies grow
Your touch it made me cry that night
Said our love was worth the fight
You touched my body You made it glow
Behind the hill where the poppies grow
I held you tight through that dark night
Our secret love it seemed so right
You touched my body You made me glow
Behind the hill where the poppies grow
The soldiers came, They came so quick
We had no time at all to think
You had touched my body You made me glow
Behind the hill where the poppies grow
I remember now, The dry red earth
Your words of love, died in the dirt
You had touched my body
You made me glow
Behind the hill where the poppies grow
They left me there Just holding you
They said they’d be back, “We’ll come get you”
I had to flee, keep real low
I did not know where to go
You had touched my body, I loved you so
Behind that hill where the poppies grow
I have no hope, I have no love
Sometimes I pray, To a god above
My body swells, Only time will tell
If our love that night, Will be made right
You touched my body, But now I cry,
Behind the hill where the poppies die

Fences

Fences
1. Lost in the landscape of my mind
I saw an eagle flying by
Blue mountains up beyond
I can see you if I try
Did I hear you call my name?
Will life ever be the same?
Or are we just another game
Played and played and played
Again?
2. Are your fences folding in?
Make a boundary hold you in
Or can you see beyond the blue
Yes love I can see you too
Did I hear you call my name?
Will life ever be the same?
Or are we just another game
Played and played and played
Again?
3. Is your life a desert too?
Barren ground reflecting nothing new
Trees are begging for some rain
Clouds raising only dust again
Did I hear you call my name?
Will life ever be the same?
Or are we just another game
Played and played and played
Again?
4. You seem so far away from me
My mind is empty I am free
Have not seen you many days
Your love is here with me always
Did I hear you call my name?
Will life ever be the same?
Or are we just another game
Played and played and played
Again?
5. Don’t lock me in don’t keep me here
Hold me in your mind and I am free
My life it flows just like a river
I am open to forever
Did I hear you call my name?
Will life ever be the same?
Or are we just another game
Played and played and played
Again?
